Getting Your Sidel Matrix Heat Right
If you’ve ever swapped out infrared lamps in a PET blow molding line, you know the headache. You put in a new lamp, start the machine, and suddenly the preforms aren’t heating evenly. It’s frustrating. The problem is usually the spectral output. If the wattage or voltage is even slightly off, your temperature curve goes sideways. That’s why we built our replacement lamps to be a dead ringer for the Sidel Matrix specs. No guessing. No “close enough.”
The nitty-gritty of the heat
We do more than just make sure the tube fits in the holder. We obsess over the voltage and wattage so the heat density—basically how much punch the lamp has per centimeter—is exactly what it should be. Why does that matter? Because if a lamp is too weak, you get cold spots. If it’s too hot, you end up with burnt PET or that annoying “pearlization” look. We’ve tweaked the filament thickness and the gas pressure inside the quartz to make sure the heat ramps up exactly how your machine expects it to.
Just plug and play
These are true drop-in replacements. We kept the footprint and the connectors identical. Whether you’re dealing with R7s or those specific SK series pins, you can just wire them up. No hacking the lamp holder, no custom brackets. The quartz glass is tough, too. It’s treated to handle the constant heating and cooling cycles that Matrix lines put them through. One quick tip: high-wattage shortwave lamps put out some serious heat. If your oven’s cooling fans are clogged with dust, these lamps will run hotter than they’re supposed to, and that’ll kill the filament faster. Keep your airflow clean, and they’ll last.
What this actually means for your shift
The real win here is your time. Usually, after a lamp change, you spend hours tweaking the oven profiles, running test bottles, and praying the temperature curve stays flat. It’s a tedious trial-and-error loop. With these, you just plug them in and run your usual recipe. The heat stays consistent, the bottles look right, and you get the line back up to full speed without the drama.
