
Sidel SBO & Matrix Lamps: No Hacks, Just a Swap
When you’re swapping out heating Lamps in a PET blower, matching the wattage is only half the battle. Nobody wants to spend their shift fighting with a lamp that doesn’t quite fit or, worse, spending hours rewiring a control board just to get a replacement to work. That’s why we built our lamps to be true drop-ins. Whether you’re running the old-school SBO models or the newer Matrix series, these just fit. No modifying the oven housing. No “creative” wiring. Just a straight swap. Getting the heat right Here’s the thing: Sidel machines are picky about how they distribute infrared heat. If the lamp is off by even a few millimeters, you’ll end up with cold spots in the preform. That’s how you get scorched plastic or inconsistent bottles. We obsess over the length and the focal point so they match the original gear exactly. We also use high-purity quartz glass. It sounds fancy, but it basically just means the heat penetrates the PET wall deeply and evenly, exactly the way it should. Plug and play (for real) We use the standard industrial connectors—usually R7s or SK15. Why? Because you should be able to slide the lamp into the socket without having to force it. When you force a fit, you risk arc-over at the terminals, and that’s a headache you don’t need. Our lamps are tuned for the specific voltage of SBO and Matrix power supplies. You pull the old tube out, plug the new one in, and you’re done. No adapters. No messing with brackets. A quick word of caution Now, if you’re tempted to push the wattage higher than the OEM specs to squeeze out more speed, be careful. High-wattage lamps put a lot of stress on your ventilation. If your cooling fans are clogged or acting up, that extra heat has nowhere to go. It’ll soak into the machine, kill the lifespan of your new lamps, and could even warp the plastic parts nearby. Keep those fans clean. We build these to survive the grind of 24/7 production.
